History Of the Australian Stock Exchange ( ASX )
The Australian Stock Exchange or Securities Stock Exchange as it is formally known was first formed in one form or another as separate state based exchanges. At one stage trading on the ASX was done manually but then moved to an all electronic system called SEATS. This has since been made redundant for the newest, latest and most powerful system called Integrated Trading System or ITS.
As at the 3oth June 2009 the market capitalization Of the ASX is believed to be approximately $1.08 trillion with approximately 2200 publicly listed companies. The ASX is the 8th largest Stock Exchange in the world by market capitalization.
The ASX operates under the business name Australian Securities Exchange. The ASX trades around 500 000 shares a day and around the same amount of CFD's.
ASX Share prices can be effected for many reasons causing the price of any given share to fluctuate every second. The basic price movement principal is supply and demand. Think of the ASX as a normal market where people collect to buy and sell goods. Same principal, and just like a real market the less valuable stock available ( if it's in demand) the higher the share price will go.
